When designing your product from nothing, as a designer there are a couple of things you need to decide.

  1. What color scheme will my product use?

  2. What font will my product be using?

  3. Create Product Logo

In this post we will mainly be talking about #1 Choosing your Products color scheme.

Inspiration

Choosing your color scheme is a key step to creating your products branding. There are couple of things you need to consider when creating your products brand. The first thing you have to ask yourself is what type of Product am I building? ‍
Is it a new social app, productivity app, SaaS?

The type of product you’re building can have a huge influence on the type of colors you choose. For example if you’re building a new social app, you might want to consider using the color blue or colors close to blue. There’s a reason Facebook, Twitter & Linkedin are using the color Blue.

Blue is calming.‍

Decide what type of product you’re building then do some research on colors of other products in your market. The next step you can do is visit a couple of Color Generator websites.

There are a ton of Website Color Generators but Coolors is by far my favorite.

Colors in your Color Scheme

When it comes to choosing how many colors in your Color scheme here’s what I typically do for the products I design.

  • Two Primary Colors

  • 2-3 Secondary Colors

My Primary Colors are usually the two main colors in my Color Scheme I use them for Buttons, Indicators, Active States.  . The Secondary Colors I flip flop between black, gray and white and I use them for texts, backgrounds & box shadows.

If you follow this simple process it will help you in creating your Color Scheme for your product. Thank you so much for reading!
